HOW IS CALIFORNIAN-BASED JEWELLERY DESIGNER GRACE LEE COPING UNDER ISOLATION?

Posted on by Cameron Tewson

Frustrated with the lack of well-designed fine jewelry for every day, Grace Lee created her eponymous collection in 2008. Being inspired by the amazing women in and around her life, she designs jewellery to fit the way a woman moves and lives her life. From treasured pieces fit for generations to come, the Grace Lee woman is not defined by age, ethnicity, or style. Rather, she is one who appreciates design and expects impeccable quality without sacrificing ethics.

Straight from her home in Los Angeles, California I caught up with Grace (via e-mail) – as she explains her isolation routines and what she’s doing to occupy herself during these uncertain times.

CT: What are you doing at this time for self-care?

GL: The forced slower pace has allowed me to eat 3 healthy meals a day and consistently take our dog for walks. Physical health is key for our emotional health so doing my best to eat well, take vitamins, and go to bed early – the basics really.

CT: What are you watching? Reading? Listening to?

GL: I just finished binge watching Itaewon Class on Netflix – it is a Korean drama where you laugh and cry for the underdog main character. I also listen to the Business of Fashion podcasts.

CT: What’s your favourite comfort food?

GL: Korean soups and my husband’s pasta.

CT: What’s your favourite cocktail/wine?

GL: Natural Orange Wine care of my friend Helen of Helen’s wine – www.helenswines.com, thankfully they ship nationwide!

CT: Are there any charities that you are supporting in the wake of Covid-19?

GL: We are teaming up with 100+ jewelry companies and donating to No Kid Hungry.

CT: Is there anything you’re doing to help local businesses?

GL: We do take-out from local restaurants and shop our local farmer’s market.

CT: What sorts of activities are you doing at home to keep yourself creative and inspired?

GL: I am working on a DIY jewelry making video to do at home with kids – of all ages. Stay tuned!

CT: What is something new that you have tried while being home? OR Have you engaged in any new activities/started any new hobbies while being home?

GL: Every day I pick one section of our home to organize and purge. Hoping to come out of quarantine with a more organized home.

CT: Is there any advice on how to stay motivated that you’d like to give other fellow creatives that are WFH at this time?

GL: I have kept my morning routine as if I was still going to the studio. I set my alarm and get up at the same time. I make a list of goals for the day.
